For my first ever blog post I am so proud to show you the Irish Dance Vest we made for 13 year old Conor. He placed 9th in the under 13 age group which consisted of 15 dancers at this year’s Midwest Oireachtas! It was such a pleasure to see how excited he was to receive his new vest – and his teachers were also quite pleased with the outcome!
We first met with Conor and his mom and decided on the design and colors. Then we created the actual vest pattern using the PADs pattern drafting software and made Conor suffer through two muslin fittings! He was such a patient and perfect model! Once the fittings were done, the actual work began. The fabric of choice for the front was a black stretch velvet fused with woven interfacing to stabilize the velvet for the embroidery process. The top half of the design was embroidered first and then the bottom half was painstakingly lined up to match. The back vest and lining are a black rayon satin with two waist darts to accommodate the fit rather than the elastic belt you would normally see. To finish things off, we added a separating zipper on the side rather than a front button closure – oh – and let’s not forget the “bling!” AB crystals throughout.
So our congratulations to Conor on a job well done! We look forward to more great things from you Conor!
